Vanaprasta is a band I literally came across by pure accident. What began as an innocent scouring of the indie blogs, I stumbled across a number of recommendations from the LA underground for a band with a merkaba on the cover of their album. Curiosity successfully piqued.
What I discovered was an indie band that is doing it very right. Top notch production quality, mixed with a sound that is very reminiscent of Kings Of Leon and a dash of Fall Out Boy (so far so good!) and songs catchy enough you would think that Foster The People wrote the lyrics.
All in all, Vanaprasta proves that indie doesn’t necessarily mean obscure instrumentation and seemingly random song structure. Indie can be fun, intelligent, and accessible. Put down your PBR, you self-righteous, post-ironic hipster clone (yeah I said it!) and instead pick up a copy of Vanaprasta’s debut “Healthy Geometry”. Your ears will thank you. Wreckless out.
